Pekin struggled with antiquated mainframe-based legacy forms generation applications that required IT intervention to make even the smallest adjustments to a form, delaying document generation. Costs and risks of maintaining the outdated on-premise system also mounted as Pekin was unable to rapidly respond to market shifts.
Tools and Technology
Pekin used SmartCOMM, by Smart Communications, for enterprise CCM, along with Hyland’s OnBase, for storage. VM designed a scalable, cloud-first architecture that leveraged API-enabled MuleSoft for connecting SmartCOMM and Guidewire, and used agile methodology for an effective test-and-learn framework.
Pekin cited ValueMomentum’s deep knowledge of the insurance industry and expertise with related solutions and subsystems as success factors. Also critical was the ability to embrace Pekin’s “one team” approach by working closely with internal employees and business integration provider, Deloitte.
Pekin reduced the former three-week documents generation turnarounds to less than a week for a 67% improvement in process efficiency. New form authoring time improved by 15 percent, and the cloud-first CCM platform reduced costs by 29%. Pekin also reconciled and migrated 3,000+ legacy forms spanning Personal, Commercial and Workers’ Comp P/C lines.
